Mogadishu, (insidesomalia.org) - At least two people have been killed and four others wounded on Tuesday in KM4 interjection near Ambassador Hotel in Mogadishu after an explosion went off, said witness.
The explosion believed to be a landmine erupted after a police vehicle with a number of police officers passed and witnesses said that the explosion seem to be targeted against the police.
"It was a heavy explosion, all the area was covered with dust and smoke after the explosion” said Ahmed Elmi, a business man who sells electronics near the hotel
Most of the victims were civilians passing the street or being in their business positions in the area, said Osman Ali, an elder speaking to InsideSomalia.org by the telephone.
Elsewhere, the Bakara market, the main market in the country is relatively calm today after government forces withdrawn on Monday positions inside and outside the market after more than a month of confrontations against the insurgents.
The market was reopened and business restarted today and business people flocked into the market but sporadic fire was heard all the time.
"After the pull out the demonstrations were staged and hundreds of people took into the streets but government forces came again at outskirts of the market and returned again" said Hashi Mohamed, a well-known elder in Mogadishu.
Negotiations are underway between National Security Committee and Committee from business people in the Bakara market but in a low profile said a chief negotiator from the business Committee who was speaking in anonymity.
More than four days the Bakara market was cordoned off by government troops supported by Ethiopian troops positioned near the market before they were withdrawn on Saturday
Somalia was lacking strong united government since 1991 after the military regime led by General Siyad Barre was ousted by factional groups that fought against each other before Transitional Federal Government was established in Kenya on 2004 and Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed was elected as the president of Somalia.
